The Web Services team at Cornell University’s ILR School is looking for an energetic, creative, and results-driven individual to join their team as content strategist. Through audience research and testing, web analytics, content analysis, classification, and design, and reliable publication schedules, the content strategist ensures that ILR’s web content is relevant and useful to users, aligns with the school’s strategic goals, and is clear, consistent, and concise. The content strategist works closely with stakeholders and a broad range of both in-house and contract professionals to define and achieve content success criteria for the ILR school’s web-based products across their entire content life cycle, including concept, design, creation, maintenance, archiving, and disposal. The content strategist analyzes, documents, and communicates project goals and business value, audience behaviors and orientation, risks, and ongoing content stewardship. The content strategist defines and enforces contingency plans in the event of failures to maintain relevant, engaging, and useful content for all web properties. The content strategist delegates as much as is practical but is personally responsible for some production tasks and creates and edits critical content as needed to ensure its strategic success. Content production includes: writing or editing web copy; enforcing style, identity, and voice guidelines; and sourcing video, audio, and/or still imagery. The content strategist also develops meaningful and measurable goals between web content and social media channels, and manages the student social campaigns (such as blogs, YouTube channels, Facebook pages, Twitter feeds, etc.) by setting direction, supervising, hiring, mentoring, and evaluating performance in concert with the strategic goals of the school.

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree, or a combination of education and related professional level work experience totaling 4 years.
  • Demonstrated understanding of content strategy and web site design and production processes.
  • Experience with developing content for strategically adaptive delivery across a range of devices and formats, including desktops, tablets, mobile phones, and assistive technologies.
  • Experience with audience research, contextual inquiries, ethnography, analytics, and user testing to guide strategic direction.
  • 3 years experience writing using html semantically to ensure accessibility, clarity, and Search Engine Optimization
  • Experience administering or using web content management systems
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Specifically writing for the web that is optimized for high quality user experience, clearly perceived calls to action, intuitive navigation, and persuasion.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to work effectively with groups and organizations both internal and external to the University. Strong team building, mediation, and coaching skills.
  • Detail-oriented and willing to learn new skills and concepts. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team.
  • Experience leading a project
